Fishing
Trolling
The best way to surface fish this lake and
other lakes in the Fish River chain is to
troll with a streamer or lure using a light
trolling rod and nylon line. As the water
warms trolling at a depth of 15-20 feet or
more may be necessary. The lodge tackle
shop offers several lures and streamers
which are popular in the area. If you'd
like to bring your own you'd do best with
lures in copper (although silver will work
in late spring and early summer). Try a
Super Duper, Harry Lure, or Weeping Willow
lure. If trolling a streamer on a fly rod
is your game, the Gray Ghost, Mickey Finn,
and Red and White all work very well.
Although, so does the specially designed
Eagle Lake and Thoroughfare Specials, tied
by one of our favorite fishermen...Tom
McDonough.
Fly Fishing
Fly fishing an evening hatch on one of the
thoroughfares or surrounding ponds can be
exciting and fly fishing any local body of
water can provide plenty of solitary action.
Fishermen will do well if their selection
of flies includes Muddler Minnows, black
Wooly Buggers, Blue Wing Olives, Green
Drakes, and Hornbergs. Hook sizes from 8-14
are preferred. You might want to try a
local favorite called the Maple Syrup, tied
by Mr. Therriault of Patten.
