Photo Safari - Let us take you on a photo safari. We can go by boat or by four-wheel drive pick up truck! We'll stay out as long as you like - rates are by the hour.

Explore Eagle Lake - The state maintains several campsites with tables, grills and outdoor facilities at different locations along the lake. Many guests take a picnic lunch and spend the day looking for moose, deer, loons and bald eagles. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars! We have boats and canoes available for rent by the day.

Paddle the Fish River from Fish River Lodge and back, or put in at Route 11. Morning and evening trips provide the best advantage for moose and deer watching, although loons and bald eagles can be seen throughout the day. We can recommend other paddling opportunities such as the St. John River, Allagash River, or other sections of the Fish River. If you don't have a canoe of your own, we have canoes available for rent by the day.

For those who like to hike and have more energy Hedgehog Mountain is just a few miles away. This is not a difficult climb and can be completed in about 45 minutes. The view is outstanding from the top. For those with a lot of energy Haystack Mountain challenges hikers with an uphill hike.

Deboullie Mountain and surrounding ponds are spectacular! Hike, paddle, fish, picnic...this is a day trip you don't want to miss and a favorite of Wayne and Tenley. Access to the area is through the North Maine Woods Fish River or St. Francis Check Points.

Aroostook County is known for its vast woodlands. The North Maine Woods, a multiple ownership, multiple use, woodlands management area is open to the public through gated check points. Day and overnight use is allowed for a small fee. Campsites and picnic spots are primitive but well maintained. Day trips in the North Maine Woods will provide ample wildlife viewing and photography opportunities - you might even see a bear! You can also drive along sections of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway as canoeists paddle by.

Go fossil hunting at Limestone Point on Square Lake. This is a full day trip but can be quite rewarding when you find that fossil!

Be sure to enjoy our local restaurants. Fiddleheads and Eagle Lake Café are located just minutes from the lodge.

Shop Fort Kent and then drive along the Maine/Canada border to Allagash for lunch at Two Rivers Café, where the Allagash and St. John Rivers meet.

Other area amenities include the Fort Kent Golf Club, horseback riding, jet ski rentals, and pontoon boat tours.

Back at Fish River Lodge during busy weeks the lodge hosts a family "pot luck" cookout. Wayne and Tenley provide hamburgers and hot dogs and guests bring their favorite salad or dessert. This is a great "ice breaker" to get families acquainted early in the week.

In the evening sit around a camp fire and toast marshmallows or hot dogs. Tenley might bring her "s'mores basket" down to the fire so all can enjoy their own delectable treats! Children can cut sticks for marshmallows from the "s'more stick garden."

Lay back on the beach and look up find the big dipper, Cassiopia, locate a satellite or catch a glimps of the northern lights before retiring to your camp where you will be sung to sleep by the loons.
